Take a moment to educate yourself about bone marrow malfuction.Spread awareness this week. Take the time to learn about this condition, and contact your Representative to support f H.R. 1230, the Bone Marrow Failure Disease Research and Treatment Act of 2009. There is a lot we don’t know about AA, including why it exists in the first place or the correct ways to treat them.
Aplastic anemia is serious and can be fatal. It is also rather painful sometimes and leaves patients open to catching all kinds of unpleasant illnesses. Bone marrow failures have claimed the lives of people such as Eleanor Roosevelt, Carl Sagan, and Marie Curie.
I am very lucky that my condition is not so bad right now as to be fatal, but there are many others who don’t share my good fortune. During this week, remember why we are fighting to grant healthcare to all citizens—aplastic anemia is a redflag condition, and it is extremely hard to get or keep healthcare from a private sector.
Awareness is important for bringing illnesses to the public attention—to give survivors hope, and to keep fighting for a cure.
